Cedar Waxwings

Last Thursday night we were pulling dead plants when Dad saw a group of (about twenty) birds up in the trees. We did not know what they were at first because we could not see there backs. On Saturday Dad showed me a picture I had taken and one of the birds that was looking down so we were able to identify them as Cedar Waxwings. The Cedar Waxwing migrates some areas of Nebraska. My bird book says that they live here year round, but I rarely see them.

The Wind By Robert Louis Stevenson

I saw you toss the kites on high
And blow the birds about the sky;
And all around I heard you pass,
Like ladies' skirts across the grass-
O wind a-blowing all day long,
O wind that sings so loud a song!

I saw the different things you did,
But always you yourself you hid.
I felt you push , I heard you call,
I could not see yourself at all-
O wind a-blowing all day long,
O wind that sings so loud a song!

O you that are so strong and cold,
O blower, are you young or old?
Are you a beast of field and tree,
Or just a stronger child than me?
O wind a-blowing all day long,
O wind that sings so loud a song!

Birds

The pictures above are pictures of birds I have been seeing at our bird feeders. These are the names of the birds Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Northern Cardinal, American Robin and Dark-Eyed Junco. I think all these birds are very interesting.

Sewing Lessons

Recently I have been taking sewing lessons. In my sewing class I have made a bag (to carry my sewing things in) and a denim skirt. Right now I am making a pair of pants. There are four other girls in my class. When I joined I got a pattern book and some paper patterns. I really enjoy using the sewing machine.
